The filter (10) consists of a radially expandable membrane (9') connected to a hollow supporting structure (7') made from a series of filaments (70'1 - 70'6), e.g. of metal or synthetic material, joined at their proximal and distal ends by rings (23, 24). After implanting in the collapsed state with the aid of a catheter, the filaments are expanded to form two end cones and parallel middle sections, giving the membrane a basic cylindrical shape that seals against the inner wall of the blood vessel and is open at one end to receive the blood flow and form a trap for vascular debris. |
