PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quantization method of a ternary value or more for avoiding crowding by pixels of a first output level. SOLUTION: The quantization processing apparatus selects a relation among a first threshold value Lth1, a second threshold value Lth2, output values 0 (blank), 1 and 2 being output values after conversion so as to be output value 0 (blank) < first threshold value Lth1 < second threshold value Lth2 < output value 1 < output value 2 thereby avoiding a quantization error from becoming 0 when an input pixel value is a medium value and preventing only pixels with the output value 1 from being continuously outputted. Thus, in the case of printing this image, continuous recording of small ink dots corresponding to the output value 1 hardly takes place and the quality can be enhanced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
