摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily locate a position where a failure occurs in an optical transmission system for transparently transmitting an optical signal. <P>SOLUTION: A wavelength path influenced by the failure is rescued, for example, by protection architecture in an SNC-P system and after that, an optical signal for locating is inserted from a node (node N4) into which the wavelength path is inserted to a wavelength path on the side of a service fiber SF, which becomes off-line. The wavelength path is set as a drop and continue mode in nodes (nodes N5, N6, N7, N8) existing on the wavelength path which becomes off-line and signals arriving via the path are monitored. Then, a section between a node in which a pattern of the optical signal for locating is detected and a nodes in which no pattern of the optical signal for locating is detected is specified as the section where the failure occurs. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
