PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the supply of a sheet material such as paper in a sheet feeding device such as a paper feeding cassette, and smoothen the feeding of the sheet material by preventing the curling of the sheet material housed to eliminate the generation of a jam in sheet feeding. SOLUTION: A bottom plate 13 is rotatably provided within the cassette case 30 of the paper feeding cassette (sheet feeding device) 18, and side fences 34 are applied and matched to both lateral sides of sheets s stacked on the bottom plate, respectively. A reverse U-shaped cutout is provided in the front of each side fence to form an elastic hook part 40 as a retaining means, and a sheet pressing claw 38 is rotatably mounted thereon. When the tip of the sheet pressing claw is lifted up, the protruding part 35 of the sheet pressing claw is hooked on the protruding part of the elastic hook part against the elastic part, and the sheet pressing claw is retained by the elastic hook part to keep its pressing part 44 in an upward position.
