PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot dip galvanized steel sheet whose glossiness is stably lowered to a value not higher than a certain level and which has an appearance similar to that of an electrogalvanized steel sheet, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The method for producing the hot dip galvanized steel sheet includes a process for hot dip galvanizing a steel sheet by dipping it in a hot dip galvanizing bath and passing it through the bath, a process for controlling the plated coating weight after pulling up the steel sheet from the hot dip galvanizing bath and cooling the pulled steel sheet to a temperature not higher than the solidifying point of the plated metal, and a process for controlling the glossiness of the plated surface by imparting fine unevennesses onto the surface by projecting solid particles onto the surface of the hot dip galvanized steel sheet being cooled to a temperature not higher than the solidifying point of the plated metal. In the process for controlling the glossiness of the plated surface, the glossiness Gs (60°) is adjusted to be≤60. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
