PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a stable dye solution which is used as a direct liquid composition or a base material for the same without requiring a complicated and expensive isolating operation. SOLUTION: The method comprises performing a diazotization reaction at a pH adjusted to have an acidic value by using pure methanesulfonic acid or a mixture of monobasic acids containing at least≥20 mole%, preferably≥50 mole%, especially≥80 mole% methanesulfonic acid.
