PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress dimensions and costs of an apparatus by simplifying a control on the side of a recorder.

SOLUTION: Setting information for designating recording elements to be used for recording among recording elements of a recording head is transmitted as control information in accordance with a predetermined recording parameter from a host apparatus (S503 and S507). Recording elements to be used are set according to the setting information at the recorder (S504 and S508). Data to be recorded by the recording elements to be used for recording corresponding to scanning is generated and transmitted as image data at the host apparatus (S505 and S509). During the scanning, recording elements set by a setting means are driven according to the image data, thereby executing recording at the recorder (S510).
