PURPOSE: An MPEG encoding method is provided to precisely estimate an amount of bit generated after encoding for improving the performance of an encoder, and reduce the complexity of hardware. CONSTITUTION: In an MPEG encoding method, edges are detected for an input image by using a mask of a predetermined size and the detection result is output as edge parameter. The type of a macro block to be encoded currently is determined by the edge parameter. The edge parameter of the macro block is multiplied by a reference quantization parameter to determine a final quantization step to be used in a real quantization. |
