PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera capable of performing a focusing operation meeting the photographer's intention more quickly. SOLUTION: The selection of the end part of the moving direction of a focusing lens provided in a photographic lens 101 is performed by the operation of a closest range selection button 1168 and an infinity selection button 1169 or according to a setup menu, or is automatically set in relation to a photographic scene. For example, when any of an ordinary photographing mode, a person photographing mode and a close-up mode is selected by a scene setting button 1164, an end on the closest range side is automatically set as the end part of the moving direction. Since a subject on the closest range side is brought into focus in such a photographic scene, the focusing lens exists on the closest range side.
