PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the ability to separate and transport paper, by removing foreign matter such as toner and paper debris accumulating on a separation claw. SOLUTION: In a fixing device having a paper separating means in which the separating part of the separation claw can be separated and retracted from the surface of a fixing roller in conjunction with the retraction of the separation claw when a jam occurs, a foreign matter removal means is provided in order to remove an accumulation of toner in contact with the separation means separated and retracted. When a separation claw holder comes into contact with the foreign matter removal means, the separation claw is retracted and also the foreign matter removal means contacts the separation claw in order to remove the accumulation of toner.
