<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the prompt activation of an exhaust emission controller in a combustion-control device for an engine in which fuel is injected in a cylinder in advanced timing prior to a top-dead center in a compression stroke so that main combustion, in which the rate of premixed combustion is higher than that of diffusion combustion, is started from the vicinity of the TDC (top dead center), and exhaust gas more than a set value is returned. <P>SOLUTION: In the combustion-control device, a temperature detector 38 is provided for detecting the temperature of an exhaust emission controller. When the temperature detected by the temperature detector 38 has a predetermined value or lower, fuel injection is controlled so as to carry out additionally after-injection in the expansion stroke after the start of the main combustion or in an exhaust stroke, and at the same time fuel injection timing for the main combustion is retarded. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
