PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fine coating newsprint paper having rapid ink-set properties comparable to those of conventional newsprint paper, excellent in printability without sticking, having high brightness and excellent in reproducibility, clarity, and the like, of printed images comparable to those of coated paper in printing, or the like, by using a cold-set type high speed rotary press using an osmotic drying ink. SOLUTION: The newsprint paper is applied with a coating layer containing a pigment and an adhesive on base paper and has 1.0 g/m<SP>2</SP>to 4.0 g/m<SP>2</SP>coating layer per one side surface of the base paper and≤4.5% water content.
