<p>An ornamental article, such as a watch or watch dial, including a polished layer of a translucent gemstone, whether natural or synthetic, such as jade, or a layer of organically grown translucent substance, such as pearl, (collectively 'translucent gem'). The translucent gem layer is sandwiched between a polished layer of a clear and transparent glass-like member, for example, white sapphire, whether natural or synthetic, having a high refractive index and a finely polished reflective surface, especially metallic surfaces including gold, platinum, silver and the like. This invention makes possible a very thin ornamental structure including a translucent gemstone emanate optical attractiveness or gleam comparable to a slice of translucent gem of considerably higher thickness.</p> |
