PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrode which improves joining strength for installing the electrode. SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing the electrode 6 fixed in a formed metal body 1 enclosed in the both ends of a glass bulb, the formed metal body 1 is integrally formed of a first metal body 2 and a supporting part 3 provided on the tip of the first metal body 2. The electrode employs a hollow metal body 6. The method comprises contacting the inner surface of the supporting part 3 and the outer surface of the hollow metal body 6, and irradiating a laser beam on a plurality of the outer surface points of the supporting part 3 to join the supporting part 3 and the hollow metal body 6 at the plurality of the joining points.
