PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject new protein composed of an interleukin-18 receptor protein recognizing interleukin-18, capable of suppressing and controlling immune reactions and useful e.g. for the treatment and prevention of diseases caused by excessive immune reaction. SOLUTION: This new interleukin-18 receptor protein recognizes interleukin-180 has a property to suppress and control immune reactions in mammals including human and is useful e.g. for mitigating the rejection reaction in organ transplantation, treating and preventing various diseases caused by excessive immune reaction, investigating the physiological action of interleukin-18 and establishing a hybridoma capable of producing a monoclonal- antibody having specificity to interleukin-18 receptor protein. The protein can be produced by culturing human lymphoblast-like cell line L428 cell (FERM BP-5777), disintegrating the cell by the application of ultrasonic wave to the cultured product and collecting the objective protein from the cultured liquid containing the disintegrated cell using a monoclonal antibody having specificity to interleukin-18 receptor protein.
