PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device which obtains a special effect without having a white defect on a display screen. SOLUTION: Digital frame image data DF outputted from an A/D converting means 4 is added at an addition means 7 for every all pixel data in an addition period tADD set longer than a transmission period tTr, and its addition result Ra is stored in a memory means 8. And the addition result Ra stored in the memory means 8 is read out and output by a reading-out means 9 once or more with a previously-set reading-out time tRD during a preset reading period iRD. Thereby a special video effect equivalent to a special video such as slow motion or high-speed reproduction can be reproduced with the faithful motion of a subject while preventing a clear defect on the display screen.
