PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to improve the precision of a track width of recording tracks, narrow the width of the recording tracks, and then increase the density of the recording tracks. SOLUTION: The recording head width of an A-azimuth head is formed to be a multiple of 1.5 of a recording track width or over, the A-azimuth heads are located so that a track pattern pitch recorded by a plurality of the A- azimuth heads is nearly twice the recording track width, the recording head width of a B-azimuth head is formed identical to the recording track width above, the B-azimuth heads are located so that a track pattern pitch recorded by a plurality of the B-azimuth heads is twice the recording track width, and a plurality of the B-azimuth heads are placed at positions overlapped in the circumferential direction of the rotary drum apparatus 2, and a plurality of the A-azimuth heads are placed at positions at which the A-azimuth heads form the track pattern on a recording tape medium 4 earlier than the track pattern formed by a plurality of the B-azimuth heads.
