PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst which exhibits sufficient catalytic activity for light in a wide wavelength area and is useful in cost or handleability, and to provide a method of producing the same. SOLUTION: The photocatalyst contains titanium dioxide and a second semiconductor material having a forbidden band width narrower than that of the titanium dioxide, and in the photocatalyst, the titanium dioxide and the second semiconductor material are brought into contact with each other.
