The invention relates to a self-centring sensing device (1) which is constructed, according to the main claim, using parallel kinematics. The inventive self-centring device is used to perform verification techniques in relation to co-ordinate machines comprising spherical reference objects and to machine tools. The aforementioned techniques are standard for co-ordinate machines, but not for machine tools owing to the lack of suitable sensing devices. According to the invention, the self-centring sensing device uses three movable rods in order to centre automatically on the spheres of the reference objects and, in this way, simultaneously measures three co-ordinates. The invention can comprise linear rods, rotary rods or a combination of both of said principles in different embodiments thereof.
