PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor a plurality of apparatus under watch in a wide area at low cost to make a high quality maintenance or service. SOLUTION: The monitor system 10 transfers data between an apparatus 18 under watch, e.g. garbage disposal machines, etc., and a monitor center 12 with a personal computer PC at a remote place, using a portable telephone a service man has as a communication terminal using commercial communication line 14. The apparatus 18 under watch mounts a PDC serial modem 22 and a controller PLC 20 for controlling the modem.
