PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope capable of surely preventing a pressurized steam at a steam sterilizing time from being invaded into the endoscope. SOLUTION: A vent valve 2 which becomes an open state for communicating with the exterior of the endoscope 1 through the interior of the endoscope 1 or a closed state for shutting off the interior from the exterior of the endoscope 1 is provided in a hub 161 of an inserting part of the endoscope 1. A valve disc 24 and a coiled spring 25 for energizing the disc 24 to a closed position are installed in the valve 2. Before this endoscope is steam-sterilized, an adapter 4 is mounted in the valve 2, a rotary knob 52 is rotated to open the valve 2, a suction tube 100 is connected to a nipple 45 of the adapter 4, a vacuum pump is operated to perform evacuation into substantially vacuum in inside of the endoscope 1, and the knob 52 is then rotated reversely to the before rotation to close the valve 2.
