<p>A metal alloy for the production of white gold; the alloy comprises manganese or a manganese compound as a whitening agent, having high metallurgical affinity with gold. Preferably, the manganese content of the alloy ranges from 5% to 50% to give the gold the desired colour and workability. A metal charge (21) comprising manganese, is melted into the pot (13) of a furnace (10) and discharged into a cooling bath (11), in the absence of oxygen, by maintaining the environment saturated with inert gas. <IMAGE></p> |
