The cover (7) for the axial cavity (3) inside the piston (1) is joined to the piston body (2) by diffusion welding or sintering. The piston body contains a cavity extending over at least part of its axial length. A cover is used to seal the cavity from the surrounding environment. An Independent claim is also included for a method for making the piston.
