PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the accuracy of character correction while enabling the batch correction of the results of recognition. SOLUTION: Any character based on an operation instruction from an operator is selected from among the text data of the results of recognition, and the selected character C1 is substituted for a substitute character C2 based on the operation instruction from the operator. Next the processed character is moved on the text data from the selected character C1 backward to determine whether character is the same as or similar to the selected character C1 (S270, S275). When the character is determined to be the same as or similar to the selected character, the character as an automatically corrected character Cm is temporarily substituted for the substitute character C2 (S290). Then the syntax at the front and rear of the substitute character C2 is analyzed (S300) and, when the syntax is discriminated to be correct, the substitution for the substitute character C2 is defined to be reasonable (S310 to 330).
