PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of an infrared-light source without lowering the quality of a CCD output signal. SOLUTION: A image reader has a film guide (5) which holds a transmission document, an LED (1) which irradiates the transparent document with a light of a 1st frequency band, an infrared LED (2) which irradiates the transparent document with a light of a 2nd frequency band, a CCD image sensor (13) including a plurality of line sensors which receive the lights emitted by the LED (1) and infrared LED (2) and transmitted through the transmission document and output electric signals, and a light guide (44) which converges the irradiation light from the infrared LED (2) so that one of the plurality of line sensors is irradiated with the light.
