PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the productivity in molding fibers (filtration pressure rise and fiber breakage), films, and bottles by finely dividing deposited particles caused mainly by a metallic atom such as aluminum which deposits in the polyester polycondensation step in using an aluminum compound as the major metal component of a catalyst which is free of an antimony compound or a germanium compound as the catalyst major component. SOLUTION: In polycondensing a product obtained by the esterification or transesterification of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its ester-forming derivative with a diol or its ester-forming derivative with the use of an aluminum compound and a phosphorus compound as the polycondensation catalyst to produce a polyester, 5-5,000 ppm, based on the aluminum atom of the aluminum compound of the constituting component of the catalyst, inorganic particles having an average particle diameter of 1-1,000 nm which are insoluble or difficultly soluble in the reaction system are added.
