PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus whose image quality is stable by avoiding the differential of printing density caused by variance in manufacture and failure caused by secular change. SOLUTION: The developing device is provided with an elastic blade 20 pressing its edge to the surface of a rotating developer carrier 11 at a specified contact angleθin a cantilever state, and is equipped with a developer adjusting mechanism 22 making the free length L and the maximum bent amount of the blade 20 variable by making an adjusting roller 24 freely move in a direction shown by an arrow B-C, and also adjusting pressing force to the developer carrier 11 by keeping the contact angleθconstant.
