Crystalline organic compounds retaining crystalline character and uniform shape on storage in aqueous medium for at least one month

A plurality of storage stable particles of uniform shape consists essentially of a plurality of allotropic organic compounds. Each of the allotropic organic compounds consists essentially of a uniform crystalline character and a plurality of crystalline domains. The organic compounds retain their crystalline character and the particles retaining their uniform shape on storage in aqueous media for at least about one month. A method for effecting solid state crystallization of an allotropic molecular organic compound in a particle of uniform size and shape comprises creating a formulation consisting essentially of an allotropic organic compound of mixed crystalline or both crystalline and amorphous form. The formulation is then fabricated into a plurality of particles of uniform shape. The particles are exposed to an atmosphere containing vapor of a solvent of the allotropic organic compound for a time sufficient to effect a solid state crystallization of the particles and then the particles are recovered. The allotropic organic compound in the recovered particles is a of a uniform crystalline structure, with the particles retaining their shape and can retain their shape on storage in aqueous media for at least one month. Preferably the allotropic organic compound is a sterol or steroid.
