Detecting cyclase-inhibiting parathormone (CIP), comprising: (a) treating a sample with a labeled antibody (Ab), or its fragment, that binds to CIP, which presents an appropriate epitope, but not to the same peptide sequence in cyclase-activating parathormone (CAP); and (b) measuring the amount of labeled Ab-CIP complex formed, is new. Independent claims are also included: (1) a similar method using an unlabeled antibody (Ab1) and subsequent reaction of the complex with a second, labeled antibody (Ab2); (2) a similar immunoprecipitation or turbidimetric method using Ab1 linked to a colloidal particle; (3) pure, optionally labeled, antibodies, or their fragments, that bind to an epitope in CIP but not to the same sequence in CAP; and (4) a kit for determining CIP comprising the antibody of (3) and either a labeling component or a second CIP-binding antibody, bound to a support.
