In a process to overhaul an automotive cylinder head and replace the valves, the cylinder head and valves are clamped in a horizontal frame which is then inverted. A plate (7) with valve-tulip push fingers is then presented and clamped to the cylinder head lower face, pushing valves upwards and providing access to the valve stems and springs on the top side. The plate has depth-adjustable push-fingers (8) mounted in guide grooves for a profiled body.
