PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce loss and improve efficiency by using winding as a conductor of a rotor and reducing a cross current in an induction motor of eight poles. SOLUTION: In the induction motor having a rotor of eight poles, sixteen trenches 1b are formed at an equal interval in the peripheral direction in the rotor 1, and the direction of the trenches 1b is made the axial direction of a rotating shaft 2. In the trenches 1b, two of short-circuit windings 3a-6a of a first to a fourth winding groups 3-6 which turn to short-circuit conductor are subjected to lap winding at two pitches, and the first to fourth winding groups 3-6 are adjacently arranged. Winding for generating a rotating magnetic field is formed in a stator. By the rotating magnetic field, induction short-circuit currents flow in opposite directions through the short-circuit windings (two short-circuit conductors), and magnetic poles are formed.
