PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device for imaging a still picture capable of real time monitoring with high image quality. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with a display image generating section (5), and a recording image generating section (9) using a microcomputer to perform a software processing, applies interlace scanning to a CCD (2) in a monitoring state to provide a display image in real time, and applies progressive scanning to the CCD in an imaging state to produce a recording high quality still picture.
