GEL VARNISH FOR OFFSET PRINTING INK, AND OFFSET PRINTING INK COMPOSITION USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gel varnish for offset printing ink to be used for obtaining an offset printing ink composition excellent in settability and resistant properties against primary and secondary blockings in making an offset printing and impairing no performances required for offset printing such as print gloss, print dryability and print stability on printed surfaces with time.

SOLUTION: The gel varnish for offset printing ink is obtained by heating a mixture comprising 20-60 wt.% rosin-modified phenolic resin and/or rosin- modified maleic acid resin, a vegetable oil component and, as necessary, mineral oil as the solvent components, a gelatinizer and 0.5-15 wt.% polyisoprene, polyisobutylene or copolymer thereof having≤19 (MPa)1/2solubility parameter and being compatible with the solvent components.
