PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the effective rate of data transmission by setting an optical transmission condition corresponding to a channel response of each sub-carrier. SOLUTION: This OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) transmitter/receiver for transmitting/receiving an OFDM signal with an opposite station transmitter/receiver is provided with a receiving part 16 for receiving an OFDM signal to be transmitted from the opposite station transmitter/receiver, a channel response calculating part 21 for calculating the channel response to each sub-carrier from the received OFDM signal, a sub-carrier channel response comparing part 22 for comparing the characteristic value of the calculated channel response with a threshold, and for calculating the ratio of the sub-carriers whose characteristic values exceed the threshold to the overall sub-carriers, and a transmission condition setting part 12 for setting a transmission condition when the OFDM transmitter/receiver transmits the OFDM signal to the opposite station transmitter/receiver by using at least the calculated ratio as a transmission condition setting index.
