PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader employing an image sensor placed at a pressing plate side and a reduction optical system reader placed at a main body side to read double-sided images at once that prevents stray light between two light sources so as not loose the reading performance and the operability in jamming release. SOLUTION: A bent is provided to an original carrying path located between the two original read means. An original end sensor is provided before the image read means placed upstream a browsing position and only this sole sensor searches for the head of the original for both image read means. An original energizing means at the browsing side of the reduction optical system and the second image read means reading the opposite side of the original are contained in the same rigid body. The rigid body is connected to the pressure plate through a rotary shaft placed in parallel with the second image read means.
