PURPOSE: An illumination device for a liquid crystal display device is provided to reflect a predetermined amount of light from a light guide panel regardless of a distance from a light source, thereby improving the screen quality. CONSTITUTION: An illumination device for a liquid crystal display device includes a light guide panel. The light guide panel includes an incident surface facing a light source for receiving light from the side light source, a projecting surface for projecting the incident light, and a facing surface facing the projecting surface for reflecting the incident light of the incident surface simultaneously transmitting the light from the outside. The facing surface has first slant surfaces inclined toward the incident surface and second slant surfaces inclined toward a surface facing the incident surface. The first and second slant surfaces are alternately disposed forming valleys and ridges. The valleys are connected by imaginary plane surfaces, wherein a height(h) from the imaginary surface to the valleys becomes reduced by a predetermined rate as a distance from the incident surface becomes increased.
