The glass panes (2) to be joined are provided with a groove (3) along one of their edges (4) or along short stretches of the edge (4). Each of the grooves (3) has a trapezoidal cross section. When both panes (2) are positioned beside each other in order to be joined, the combined grooves (3) form a space with a butterfly-shaped cross section, which is filled with a matching profile (5) for a tight connection with a plane outer surface. The same design can be used for joining panes (2) in a right angle. There is also a version with a groove (3) located at the surface of one pane (2) and the matching profile (5) integrated in the edge (4) of the second pane (2).
