Nucleic acid derived from an ALPV (Aphid Lethal Paralysis Virus) virus, the isolated nucleic acid having a sequence which (a) is the RNA sequence of SEQ I. D. No: (1) of the sequence list, (b) is complementary to the sequence according to (a), (c) in stringent conditions of at least 6 x SSC and 37 °C hybridises to any one of the sequences according to (a) or (b), and, upon infection of insects belonging to the Homoptera, leads to paralysis and/or an inhibition of the population growth of the homopterous insects; compositions containing said nucleic acid, and uses thereof
