PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing roll which permits the easy manufacture of a release layer having an excellent heat resistance and releasability and further having an excellent wear resistance on an elastic material layer on a cylindrical core roll and to prolong the life of a fixing device. SOLUTION: The release layer 25 is composed of a fluororesin containing the PTFE crosslinked by heating the resin to a temperature near its melting point and irradiating the resin with ionizable radiations in an inert gaseous atmosphere, by which the fixing roll 21A having the excellent releasability and heat resistance and further having the excellent wear resistance is provided.
