PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for positioning end surfaces of belt materials and a manufacturing method which does not cause the difference of the end surfaces when the belt materials are butted to each other, unnecessitates the correction of the difference by means of a hammer, etc., in welding and hardly generates welding defects. SOLUTION: This device for positioning the end surfaces of the belt materials which are butted to each other is provided with clamps 4a, 4b which fix a corner of the top 1 of the belt material, clamps 5a, 5b which fix a corner of the end of the material 2 and optical sensors 6, 7 for detecting the terminal position of the top 1 and the end 2 of the belt material. Therein, in accordance with the detected results of the optical sensors 6, 7, the clamps 4a, 4b and 5a, 5b are driven and, thereby, the end surfaces of the respective belt materials are positioned. In such a state, the belt materials are welded to each other by means of a welding torch 3. Therein, drivers for correcting warpages of the respective belt materials and drivers for regulating vertical positions of the respective belt materials are preferably disposed.
