PURPOSE: A cap assembly and a cylindrical secondary battery employing the cap assembly are provided, to prevent the component comprising a safety valve from being separated from the gasket even before assembling is terminated. CONSTITUTION: The cap assembly comprises a gasket(21) which is provided with a cylindrical inner space and the circumference(21a) projected along the internal surface; and a safety valve which is received inside the gasket and is placed at the lower part of the projected circumference to prevent the safety valve from being separated from the gasket even before assembling is terminated, and a cap(23) placed above the safety valve. The cylindrical secondary battery comprises an electrode assembly comprising an anode plate, a cathode plate and a separator separating the two plates electrically; a can receiving the electrode assembly; a gasket which is assembled at the upper part of the can and is provided with a cylindrical inner space and the circumference projected along the internal surface; and a safety valve which is received inside the gasket and is placed at the lower part of the projected circumference to prevent the safety valve from being separated from the gasket even before assembling is terminated, and a cap placed above the safety valve.
