PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope which accumulates actual operating time till the end of its operation and allows service and maintenance of the endoscope at the right time. SOLUTION: A fundamental device 20 is equipped with an endoscope recognizing means 30 (31) to recognize an individual endoscope 10 connected to the fundamental device 20 and a temporary storing means 30 (34) to store operating time during one connection and a result recognized by the endoscope recognizing means 30 (40). When the endoscope 10 is connected to the fundamental device 20, data on operating time of the endoscope 10 conforming to the recognized result on the endoscope in the temporary storing means 30 (34) is added to a cumulative operating time storing means 19 provided on the endoscope 10, and the data on operating time in the temporary storing means 30 (34) is turned back to zero.
