<p>An intravascular administration set with an integral needle safety device (6) includes an elongate needle trap (7) which is pivotally affixed to a needle stick guard (8). A winged needle holder (9) having an elongate needle (15) is received by the guard (8) and the trap (7) is adapted to move at least partially along the length of the trap (7). A needle guide hole (21) is defined within the guard (8), and at least a portion of the needle shaft (5) is passed through the guide hole (21). The needle holder (9) can be moved such that the needle (5) is withdrawn from the guide hole (21). The guide hole (21) is axially spaced from the needle axis such that the needle (5) is offset with respect to the guide hole (21) once the needle (5) is withdrawn therefrom and cannot otherwise be re-extended through the guide hole (21).</p> |
