PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device and a spindle motor control method therefor, in which a structure is simple and inexpensive and the rotation of a spindle motor can be surely stopped in a short time. SOLUTION: The end of braking is conventionally decided by detecting a back electromotive force with hardware but this decision can be executed in software processing by a software means S1 while utilizing hardware resources conventionally built in the device.
