The method is for bi-directional fiber optic coupling and couples and combines a multi-mode fiber and a single-mode fiber to a double fiber with a coupler. The multi-mode fiber is connected to a first port, the single-mode fiber is connected to a second port and the double fiber is connected to a fourth port of the coupler. A third and idle port also exists. A light-emitting device may inject a signal via the single-mode fiber into the second port and the signal exits from the fourth port to the double fiber. A light-emitting device may also inject a signal via the multi-mode fiber into the first port, the signal exiting from the fourth port to the double fiber. Signals from the double fiber with the coupler can be separated to different receivers.
