PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator-freezer favorably cooling in high-load operation without using a high-performance compressor 1 in the refrigerator-freezer having a mode passing refrigerant to both vaporizers of the vaporizer 4 for a refrigerating room and the vaporizer 5 of a freezing room and a mode passing the refrigerant to the vaporizer of the freezing room alone. SOLUTION: A three-way valve 3 is provided on the downstream side of a condenser 2 connected to the compressor 1, the three-way valve 3 and the R vaporizer 4 in the side of the refrigerating room R are connected by a capillary A, and the three-way valve 3 and the F vaporizer 5 in the side of the freezing room F are connected by a capillary B. When applying a power supply for the first time in a high temperature, the three-way valve 3 is switched to feed the refrigerant to the F vaporizer 5 for a prescribed time. This constitution can reduce the load of the compressor 1 so as to prevent in advance, the stoppage of the compressor 1 caused by the excessive load.
