LIQUID CRYSTAL ELECTROOPTICAL ELEMENT

摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an electrooptical element using a chiral nematic liquid crystal with bistable states via Freedericksz transition realize display characteristics of a high contrast ratio and high transmittance. SOLUTION: The electrooptical element uses white light as a light source and carries out a display by switching between the bistable states produced by setting axes of polarization of both polarizing plates to a specified angle corresponding to an initial state of the liquid crystal and retardation of a liquid crystal layer.
