Method of transmission of at least a first and a second polarisation multiplexed data signals in an optical communication system

The data signal transmission method has a pair of carrier signals (ts1,ts2) modulated with data signals (ds1,ds2) to provide two modulated signals (ms1,ms2) with orthogonal polarizations combined to provide an optical multiplex signal (oms). The modulated signals are extracted from the optical multiplex signal at the reception end by a polarization splitter (PBS), receiving the signal via polarization setting element (PTF) provided with a regulating signal (rs) dependent on spectral analysis of electrical signals (es1,es2) obtained from the modulated signals. An Independent claim is also included for an optical transmission system.
