PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lid engaging mechanism for a compact which has simple structure, can be easily assembled, and is made smoothly open and restore the lid by operating an operating member. SOLUTION: This is a compact equipped with a case main body, a lid body with an engaging piece at a prescribed position openably attached to the case main body, and a lid engaging mechanism mounted on the case main body. The lid engaging means is constituted of a guide wall face with a guide with a hook and an inclined face placed on the main body and a guide hole equipped under the guide, a pressing plate slidably mounted on the case main body, and an operating member with the bottom plate connected to the lower end of the pressing plate. A flexible ring engaged with the inclined face of the guide is connected to the upper face of the bottom plate.
