Cationic azo compounds (I) are new. <??>Cationic azo compounds of formula W1-W2-N=N-W3 (I) are new: <??>W1 = a group of formula (II); <??>W2 = a group of formula (III); <??>W3 = a group of formula (IV). <??>Independent claims are also included for: <??>(1) a composition for dyeing keratinic fibers, comprising at least one compound (I); <??>(2) a method for dyeing keratinic fibers, comprising applying the composition of (1) to the fibers; <??>(3) a kit comprising the composition of (1) in one compartment and an oxidizing composition in another compartment. <??>n = 0-3; <??>X1 = N or CR<7>; <??>X2 = N or CR<8>; <??>Z1 = CHR<2>, O, S or NR<14>; <??>Z2 = O, S or NR<15>; <??>R<0>-R<12>, R<14> = 1-10C (un)saturated (cyclo)aliphatic hydrocarbyl, optionally with one or more C atoms replaced by O, N, S or SO2 and optionally substituted with halogen; <??>R<13>, R<15> = 1-8C alkyl optionally substituted with OH, 1-2C alkoxy, 2-4C (poly)hydroxyalkyl, NH2, mono- or di(1-2C alkyl)amino, COOH, SO3H and optionally substituted phenyl; <??>X = an anion; <??>alternatively, R<5>+R<6> forms an aromatic carbocycle.
